Colm Naughton (Ireland)

Colm NaughtonColm grew up near the village of Creggs in North Co. Galway. He cites his family as a major influence on his formative years playing Irish Traditional Music, as five of his six siblings also play music. He further honed his skills as a traditional musician in the vibrant session scene of Galway city in the late 90’s and early 2000’s where he was in high demand on the regular pub circuit of the time. He also toured extensively in the U.S. and Europe with different bands during this time.

Colm released his debut solo CD entitled ‘The Space Between the Notes’ in 2013 to great acclaim. Renowned accordionist Máirtín O’Connor wrote of the album at the time, “I’ve always known Colm as a very accomplished and versatile banjo and mandolin player. On this recording, his playing is, as always, rich, full bodied and full of heart…. I wish him every success and hope that this recording captivates other listeners as much as it has done me.”

His love of traditional music is not confined to just playing, and he is known as one of the finest teachers in the region. He is currently teaching banjo and mandolin in a number of venues in Co. Galway. He currently plays regularly with Matt Keane and Orlaith Keane and is also still in high demand as session musician in a variety of genres including trad, country and now salsa.
